Welcome to "We Love 2 Stitch" and another addition to the popular Build-A-Block series, the Flying Geese Block. Flying geese blocks are one of our favorite quilt blocks and make stunning quilts, table runners, and more. When the flying geese block is paired with another quilt block, the results are incredible! If star blocks are a favorite, you will love the flying geese block. Like many traditional quilt blocks, there are a variety of different methods to create a flying geese block. Why use traditional piecing techniques when you can piece and quilt the blocks in-the-hoop? The Flying Geese Build-A-Block is super easy to stitch, has several options for the quilting motifs and project layouts. Making a perfect flying geese block has never been so effortless.
One of the prevailing reasons behind our desire to create the “Build-A-Block” embroidery series is to inspire creativity, both yours and ours. The Flying Geese Cosmetic Bags are a perfect example of how to be innovative and imagine new projects using the Build-A-Block designs. These simple-to-stitch cosmetic bags use the flying geese blocks as the feature blocks, and a combination of “Q” (quilt) blocks, border blocks, and “cut” blocks for the bag. Clever, yes, and a great example of thinking outside of the box and utilizing several of the Build-A-Blocks to create a project that will be stitched and quilted in the hoop. As a bonus, creating these projects with the Flying Geese Build-A-Block is really, really, fun. Even better, you get to select the quilting motifs to fit your fabrics and taste. Three bag sizes are included in the step-by-step instructions.
There are five projects covered in the Step-by-Step Instructions, two table toppers or pillows, two placemats, and the cosmetic Bag in three different sizes. The wonderful thing about the Build-A-Block series is that there are so many options for layouts and for projects.
THE FLYING GEESE BLOCK: The Flying Geese Block is comprised of two different elements, the GOOSE (or Geese) unit and the SKY units. The Flying Geese Build-A-Block has six coordinating sizes. However, it is important to note that the smaller sized blocks (3½”, 4” and 4½”) are Double Goose Blocks while the larger sized Blocks (7”, 8” and 9”) are Single Goose Blocks. Using the Single Goose and Double Goose Blocks together in a project will provide a wide variety of project options.
